If you have been in the crypto realm you definitely heard of mining, but what is it? Is it profitable? What is a mining rig? How do you build one?

On today’s blog we will answer these questions and more so make sure to read through.

What is crypto mining?

It is the act of solving highly complicated problems using computational power and getting paid in cryptocurrency for doing so.

Solving those problems require high computational power and for that reason we need a really powerful machine, or what is called a mining rig.

What is a mining rig?

A mining rig is basically a set of either CPU’s,GPU’s, FPGA or ASIC depending on how  you want to mine and your budget.

You are able to purchase a pre-built miner, we suggest the iPollo V1 miner, you can get one between the price range of $2,399.00 and $2,699.00

This might be too pricey for beginners and people living in third world countries which is why we made this blog … to show you how you can build your own mining rig.

How do I build a mining rig?

To get a better idea, a mining rig is just a computer … probably like the one you’re using right now as a matter of fact, you can use any computer to mine crypto all you need is to install the software to get started and boom!

You’re mining crypto, don’t expect profitability to be millions of dollars per year if you’re using an old processor or a laptop, we will tell you more about how to calculate the profitability of your mining rig.

In this blog we will talk about how to build a gpu mining rig.

To build your mining computer you need mining elements, a mining motherboard and a mining gpu (although regular gpu will do just good).

For the motherboard we have two recommendations for two different price points.

ASRock H110 Pro BTC+ this one can hold up to 13 gpu’s, it’s being sold for 420$ on amazon (no joke).

You can check it out here

The other option is way cheaper Biostar TB360-BTC PRO 2.0, it is being sold for a price of 148$ on amazon

You may order one from here

Alright now that you got your motherboard you need a CPUto power that whole thing up, for this we highly recommend the AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, it’s widely available and the price is affordable in most countries, however if you want to get with something less expensive you may do so no problem, just don’t cheap out.

By now you have noticed that this is a regular computer build, we are just using some hardware that is optimized for mining.

Alright now that we got the CPUand the motherboard out of the way we can talk about the gpu’s.

We can use a regular graphics or a mining one, obviously a mining one is superior and for that we recommend the NVIDIA CMP HX, it’s been made specially for professional mining.

As for regular gpu’s we recommend

  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 may be able to buy one for about 350$
  • AMD Radeon RX 580, although more expensive it provides a better profit for miner,  it is being sold on amazon just shy of 650$
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090, this one is a beast, if you have the enough funds for it, don’t think twice, it’s being sold at 1500$

We now have our CPU, motherboard and gpu, what we need is ram, mining doesn’t require much ram, anything between 4GB and 16GB is enough.

Now for the power supply, this can either make or break your whole system, WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON THIS ONE, the PSU should at least feed your system with 1200W, this will ensure that  your system is working at its full potential  and also give you a room for improvement later down the road.

… this is it for today’s blog, we will see you guys in the next one talking about the software side of things.
